Roger Silk
about

Roger Silk has been making glass for 25 years.
In that time he has developed his glass making through numerous college courses alongside workshops with many talented artists including Colin Reid, Fiaz Elson, Gayle Mathias and Joshua Kerley.
His education is as eclectic as his experience, with multiple qualifications in glass making coupled with a degree in Civil Engineering.
He has a deep understanding of material science and design founded on 5 years of Civil Engineering Courses, which informs his research and testing of Glass Foam.
Rogers greatest delight is to combine his love of colour, pattern, and texture into a geometric form, in one piece of work.
Rogers Silks glass is an expression of the dichotomy that is his background.
In his 1st career he thrived on the demands of working on site, supervising major construction projects, involving complex structures of steel and concrete.
In his 2nd career, in glass, he explores the depths and boundaries of the materiality of glass, in particular the influence that its actual colour has on its physical properties, and behaviour, in the kiln.
Pursuing his intrigue born of the experimentation with glass foam, he has developed 3-Dimensional pieces, of a style that have never been seen before, using a rarely used form of glass, in a technique that is possibly unique in the art glass sphere.
